The geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) are natural, environmental friendly liners integrated with a sandwiched layer of sodium bentonite clay between geotextiles carriers. With this feature, it enhances and complements the effectiveness of normal geomembranes; enabling the composite lining system to “self-heal” in the event that if the lining system were to be accidentally punctured. The “self-healing” mechanism provided by the sodium bentonite clay’s inherent swelling properties will seal the puncture by itself when hydrated.
